The current climate of the world can be extremely discouraging and nurses see this first hand. Nurses see the worst and best of humanity. They objectively care for saints and sinners every day. This can be extremely difficult and cause one to become jaded. In the nursing profession, I see this happen often and it is an easy trap to fall into. However, it is important to remember, all humans have value. All patients deserved to be treated with respect, honesty, and should receive quality care.
My stance on controversial issues such as abortion, designer babies, and stem cell research is not black and white. If nursing has taught me anything, it has taught me that life is not black and white. There is a lot of gray in there. However, sadly, many only choose to live in a world of right and wrong. Personally, I believe these topics are extremely personal, unique, and I have no right to judge. The Bible states, Though sin has greatly defaced Gods image in us, by Gods grace in Christ that image is renewed (Ross, 2013, Par. 10).
