Movie Review Prompt (including links to reviews)
Movie Review
Write a review of a satirical film that we are not watching in class. Your audience is this class: educated people who are interested in film in general and satire in particular, and who know something about both. The point is to make a viewing recommendation, either positive or negative, about the film. Your recommendation should concentrate on the satirical aspect of the film; in other words, youre recommending (or not recommending) a satirical film to people who are interested in satire. Your recommendation should take other aspects of filmmaking and storytelling into account, however. Perhaps its a strong satire thats undermined by poor editing or lighting or narrative structure; perhaps its a weak satire but a good film in other respects.
I am evaluating your argument and your writing, not whether I think youre right or wrong.
Your goals are to include:
- A brief overview of the film.
- An analysis of the films strengths and weaknesses.
- A discussion of the films satiric content/target/message.
- An evaluation/recommendation.
Be sure to use the technical terms youre learning from our text as appropriate.
The review should be roughly 500 words, and is due on April 25. Reviews will be posted on the class Moodle page.
