The value of a mentor is the one who can help cultivate leadership skills one-on-one in real-time, reduce the anxiety in taking big steps, and focus leaders on achieving their goals (International, 2013).As a new graduate nurse the unit clinical educator was my mentor. I have to admit that thanks to her I was able to develop critical thinking and communication skills in the real nursing field, as bedside nurse in my working place, not in a classroom. An skilled mentor facilitates individual professional development, improve communication skills, help develop own self-knowledge, encourage strategic visions, and inspire the professional to pursuit its goals. An experienced colleague, known as a mentor, can provide invaluable help to you as you begin your career and advance in it (Mckay, 2016).

I will advise any healthcare professional to have a mentor because they can do a number of things for your career. They can help you build your resume, guide you on a project, and help you identify resources, including referring you to other mentors and important people in your field. A mentoring partnership can be rewarding to both people, personally and professionally. It’s an opportunity to develop communication skills, expand your viewpoints, and consider new ways of approaching situations. And both partners can advance their careers in the process.
