There are many strategies and programs that is named “youth friendly” or “youth-centered” but in reality it is questionable how much such strategies and programs were developed by involving children and adolescents in planning, development and evaluation. Health care problems related to youth such as sexually transmitted infections, suicidality and substance use disorders require deep understanding of multiple aspects of their life experiences, and many of which might not be identified by outsiders even their parents. This article was focused on youth only but I believe that we as healthcare professional must start patients and family engagement process by encouraging patient and their family to participate in their healthcare planning, listening to their insights and ideas and take these ideas as serious as our professional medical insights and knowledge.
