Advocacy strategies that I can use as a leader to create positive change is by communicating concerns that the patient has to the doctor, charge nurse and seeing if they are able to explain it to the patient better. Also providing more education on issues the patient is unsure about to make informed choices. Letting the patient feel listened to and care for. Right now, we have strict visitor rules but a patient asked for an exception for her daughter’s special circumstance. Instead of just saying flat out no I told her it’s always good to ask the question and I can find out. Even though we weren’t able to accommodate her full request, she appreciated that I at least tried and was compassionate.
